New Week

Well! Happy Friday everybody!

We made it through another week, and have money to spare! So exciting. I have money to put in my little jar! Look out Ikea - I'll get there soon.

I will visit the bank this morning, and take out even more money! I've decided for myself I will take out money weekly instead of by paycheck. This will make it easier for me to make it to my deadline and less overwhelming to know I just need to make it to Friday instead of the next Friday. It's all in my head, but it works for me.

I'm interested to know how others work their budgets, do you go weekly, biweekly, or just go with Debit and try not to think about it?

  1. Hi Crystal... as a family on one income as well, we budget bi-weekly because that's the way my husband gets paid...
I get an allowance of $100 a week and that covers me and the children's needs (essentials, investments, gas, fun/play for me and the kids, etc) and we have another budget that is for home needs (groceries, home essentials, etc) This seems to work best for us.
I tend to use debit as I am less likely to make impulse purchases if I know it's going to be a drain on my account.

  2. I am the opposite of Julie...I'd be bad with a debit card and I would have a hard time keeping track of how much I spend, so cash would be much better for me. That way I would know exactly how much I have left to do me for the week/bi-week...whatever the case might be. Jeremy does up a daily budget for us...so that I know how much I can spend each day...of course if I don't spend all of the budget for that day, it gets to be left over money, that I can use another day, or save for what I want. The money will not be taken out daily, but it's a number that I have in my head that lets me know how much I can spend in one day. The very first time he did up a daily budget for me (after we first met and I was working) with all my debt and what not, I had a budget of 2.50 per day...that's a low budget! lol But I tried my hardest to stick to it, and I did pretty good, but I always felt almost ill on the days I went over the budget. Now my daily budget is a bit higher, but like I said it's a number that reminds me of what I can spend each day. For example...Julie says she gets a budget of 100 dollars per week...so that works out to 14.28 (ish) a day that she can spend. Somedays she might spend 5 dollars other days it might be 20.
